Design on a Dime kicked off this year's 3-day event with a VIP Opening Night Reception at the Metropolitan Pavilion. For going on eleven years now, Housing Works has established "DOAD" as being a one-of-a-kind charity event that brings together today's premier interior designers in support of individuals living with HIV/AIDS.
We've rounded up a few reasons why Design on a Dime is one of our chosen events of the season:
1. Inspiring Interiors from Top Designers!
Nearly 60 interior designers create exclusive vignettes full of donated merchandise from over 400 charitable home décor brands. The results are nothing short of impressive and this year's favorites came from Miles Redd, Billy Cotton, Anthony George Home Inc., Corey Damen Jenkins & Associates, Danielle Colding Design, FLAIR, Halcyon Design and Nick Olsen.

2. You Get to Mingle & Shop!
Guests are invited to wander around the Pavilion to appreciate each of the designer's unique design direction, while actually having the option to shop the merchandise. From the furniture to art to decorative accents, every item included is donated and sold at 50-70 percent off retail pricing. In other words, shoppers can get quality goods at an unbelievable bargain!

3. Celebrity Sightings!
The benefit attracts hundreds of celebrities, designers and fellow creatives spanning various design industries. It is exciting to see who comes to support such a fantastic charity event, and this year's highlights included some of the cast members of HBO series "Girls" to the man of Bravo network, Andy Cohen.

4. Music & Booze!
With an environment filled with beautiful décor and beautiful people, it can only get better from there with a tasty cocktail and good tunes. This year's reception included a live DJ that made you feel as if you were mingling in one of New York's coolest designer clubs and of course, 3 open and full bars were running - and we love when we don't have to wait in long lines!

5. Most Important: To Help Others in Need!
Above all, Housing Works hosts the Design on a Dime benefit to support people living and affected by HIV/AIDS. The entrepreneurial business has focused this year's benefit to support its newest Hull Street Residence project. Hull Street will soon become the home for 28 single, formerly homeless adults living with HIV/AIDS.
This year's event was a complete success. It was an unforgettable evening full of design enthusiasts, exclusive shopping, cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, live entertainment and a space full of positive people wanting to help those in need. It truly doesn't get much better than that!
