Epistar Chairman Foresees Rapid Growth in LED Trends for the Next Three Years
The use of LED lighting has rapidly increased since its inception. Soon, it will be entering the S curve growth period which the Epistar company thinks will place LED lighting into a three-year development growth. This was the forecast from Epistar Chairman B.J. Lee during the LED Taiwan 2014 and Taiwan International Lighting Show which was held this month.
During the opening ceremony, Lee mentioned that the penetration rate of LED is rapidly increasing. According to Lee, Japan has the highest lead in LED use with an increase of 50 to 70 percent between 2013 and 2014. The U.S, market follows suit as there is an anticipated increase to 20 percent between 2013 and 2014.
Lee also said that the growth of the LED lighting industry and LED backlight will be different. LED backlight had a rapid penetration growth rate within a short amount of time compared to LED lighting. Lee foresees the LED lighting industry will enter an S curve fast growth period after it breaks out from 10 percent of the penetration rate. This will continue to grow until 2017.
With this, LED manufacturers will be gaining advantage from the increased demand. At the same time, there is a foreseen competition within the market. Top LED manufacturers will play a crucial role in this growth of the lighting trend and eventually, competition will take place.
Epistar also revealed that their own company will be releasing new products for 2017. One of these would be the smart lighting system. Epistar is also planning to improve the company’s virtual vertical integration by utilizing the country’s strength in manufacturing wireless technology.
