New Wallpaper Design from NLXL to Launch this April

NLXL will be launching a new kind of wallpaper inspired by the 2013 Viktor &Rolf fall/winter show in Paris. For the show, Studio Job created a backdrop of withered grayish flowers which resembles a dark take on a William Morris canvass. This design, along with several graphics from Dutch design team composed of Job Smeets and Nynke Tynagel are reimagined by NLXL in their newest wallpaper collection.

According to Rick Vintage, NLXL co-founder, he immediately approached Studio Job after seeing their work on the Paris show. Vintage believes that when used as a wallpaper, it could add a whimsical and conceptual element for a home. “Wallpaper is a very traditional world. This is bold. It sometimes has anger and danger in the patterns.” Vintage said that Perished, a design showing skeleton pieces, is one of his favorites.

Editor of Dutch interior magazine Eigen Huis & Interieur, Jack Meijers, said “Once upon a time there was a roll of empty paper, desperately in need of color and composition. Deeply moved by the Withered Flowers stage set that Studio Job designed for Viktor & Rolf’s Fall Winter 2013 Collection, Rick Vintage of NLXL gave Job & Nynke a call. Fifty different patterns made from motifs out of the Studio Job archives were carefully reduced to seven that made the transition into wallpaper. But then again, maybe the term ‘wallpaper’ doesn’t do these 9 meter long compositions justice. Judge for yourself in Milano. And then perhaps try them at home." The said quote is also posted on NLXL’s website.

The wallpaper collection will be launched during the Milan Furniture Fair which runs from April 8 to April 13. It will soon be released in the United States for $299 per roll.
