The 5 Finalists For The 2017 EU Prize For Contemporary Architecture-Mies Van der Rohe Award, What To Know About The Event
Five finalists are chosen for the 2017 EU Prize for Contemporary Architecture-Mies van der Rohe Award. The finalists were shortlisted from 40 participants.
According to arch daily, these five finalists for the 2017 EU Mies Award have been chosen by the jury because of the ability to respond to the needs of today's European society. In fact, Jury Chairman Stephen Bates shared that they all were looking for the ordinary designs with much potential for today's society.
The jury members will visit each finalist to see firsthand how the design can be unique from one another. This way the buildings can be evaluated closely. The jury members will also observe how these buildings are being used by the public. Jury members are to start visiting these designs in April.
Architect Magazine reported that these five finalists have been chosen Wednesday. The jury members looked into the conceptual, technical and constructional qualities. The first finalist for the 2017 EU Mies Award is the Katyn Museum in Warsaw, Poland by the BBGK Archeticki.
The design from Lundgaard & Tranberg Architects that is the Kannikegrden in Ribe, Denmark is also another finalist for the award. The third finalist is the Rivesaltes Memorial Museum in Rivesaltes, France and is designed by Rudy Ricciotti.
DeFlat Keiburg in Amsterdam; the Netherlands is also a finalist for the 2017 EU Mies Award. This architecture is designed by NL Architects and XVW Architectuur. Lastly, the Ely Court in London is also a finalist and this is designed by Alison Brooks Architects.
Meanwhile, Architectural Digest reported that these five locations will be visited by the jury members before the announcement of winners. The final announcement will be on May 16 and the awarding ceremony will be held on May 26 at the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion in Barcelona.
Aside from these ceremonies for the finalists, these projects will have an open house between May 20 and May 28. A book will be launched featuring the nominated projects.
