LG G Flex Display Screen Features 'Bump' Issue: Report
The LG G Flex's highly-touted curved display is experiencing a common, but unappealing issue: small bumps forming on the smartphone's screen.
According to a Korea Times report, the problem manifests when two bumps surface on the display of the smartphone, which has been an issue with just about every G Flex handled by the Times' Korean mobile retailer source. LG says that the bumps disappear over time and suggest massaging them out, Phandroid reports.
The bumps are reportedly caused by excessive pressure placed on the smartphone's curved display. There is no indication that LG has come up with a way to nix the issue at the production level.
The G Flex will make its arrival to Sprint on January 31, the carrier announced Thursday.
The curved smartphone will be available for $299.99 on a two-year service agreement. Sprint is the first carrier to announce a launch date for the G Flex, which has also been confirmed for AT&T and T-Mobile.
The smartphone, which supports Sprint's Spark LTE network, will hit Sprint's online and telesales channels first and will become available in Sprint stores on February 7. Pre-orders begin today at sprint.com/lggflex. Customers who pre-order the smartphone before January 31 will receive a free Quickwindow Folio Case with their purchase.
The phone features a 6-inch 720p curved OLED display, a 13-megapixel rear camera with two rear control buttons, a 2.1-megapixel front camera, a Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of storage and a curved 3,500 mAh battery. The G Flex is powered by Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.
Similar to the LG G2, the G Flex's specs list also features high-fidelity audio recording and playback, dual-window app functionality and tap-to-wake on the touchscreen. The phone includes special animations depending on where and how the user unlocks it and a "self-healing" coating on the cover that can repair hairline fractures on the rear "within minutes." Based off of the flagship LG G2, the G Flex is a bit bigger and "looks like the Samsung Galaxy Nexus had a baby with the LG G2," says Android Headlines. It sports a 6-inch display made of "bendy plastic substrates, rather than glass," according to the UK's Daily Mail. The screen also helps cut down glare, offering a more "cinematic" experience, CNET reports. Coming in at just 0.44m thick, the G Flex is equipped with a protective film in the back that prevents it from bending or breaking.
