High Point Showcases New and Returning Trends for 2014/15
High Point Market, held April 5-10 2014 highlighted new trends and the return of some old ones albeit with a twist. Here are some "high points" to look out for.
* The classic black and white is taken into a different spin. Forget totally subtle black and interiors and opt for those with pops of color in deep, saturated hues.
* Brass, brass and more brass. One of this year’s biggest trend is brass, from the shiny metal to the golden ones. Brass may have been a resident design element in the past years but this year, it’s getting bigger than ever.
*Big prints on decors. Be it geometrical shapes or floral patterns, this spring is all about going big and bold. If you’re quite unsure if they will fit in your room but want to use them anyway, try applying these patterns in your area rugs, throw pillows or other decors to upgrade the look of your home.
* Bluer than blue. Radiant orchid may be the color of the year, but blue is taking the center stage as well. Pick a blue in a more crisp hue of different shades and intensities. Smoky blue is also a trendy color of the moment, lending a sophisticated touch to your decors. If you’re not into blue, you can also take a look at greens, purples and bright yellows which also proved to be eye candies during the show.
* Going Global. Curated curios during travels are becoming hot these days. These give a personal, individual touch to any room it is displayed on. So, the next time you visit an exotic country, remember to pick up some souvenirs, be it little boxes, lighting or an artwork and place it in a special spot in your home.
* Mirrors and not just on the wall. Mirrors have that mysterious, elegant, and modern feel to them. This year’s take on mirrors are more on the organic side, or framed in gold or brass tones. If you are feeling adventurous, pick one with a mercury glass in it.
* Metal upholstery. Don’t limit your use of metallic sheens in your hardware. Upgrade your couch with metallic, shimmery upholstery for that sophisticated and sexy appeal.
The next High Point Market will be on October 18-23, 2014
