Apple’s Genius Bar Is Something Steve Jobs Didn’t Like At First
Apple’s Genius Bar is one of the things that sets the Apple store apart from any other tech stores in the world. For that reason, it's very surprising to learn that Apple’s co-founder Steve Jobs didn’t really like the idea of a Genius Bar in their stores initially.
Today, the Genius Bar allows Apple users to book a time with an Apple Genius and assist them with anything about their Apple product, including repairs. This type of service is not only useful to tech enthusiasts but also to new Apple users as well. According to Apple Insider, Steve Jobs thought the idea of a Genius Bar was “so idiotic” and will “never work” when it was pitched to him by the previous head of Apple’s retail Ron Johnson.
According to Jobs, the idea is actually good but will have a huge gap between a tech expert and the consumers. He believes it will be very challenging for someone who is very familiar with technology to connect with people. However, Johnson explained his idea and said the people assigned to the position will be young individuals who grew up using the device, according to Fortune.
And although Jobs was hesitant at first, Johnson’s explanation was enough to convince the former CEO and co-founder of one of the biggest technology company in the world to add the Genius Bar in their stores. The next day, Apple’s general counsel trademarked the “Genius Bar” and the rest is history.
Steven Paul “Steve” Jobs is not only the co-founder and CEO of Apple but also a major shareholder and CEO of Pixar, a member of the board of directors of The Walt Disney Company, CEO, and founder of NeXT. Jobs and his co-founder of Apple, Steve Wozniak, are recognized in the world as one of the first individuals to develop the microcomputer in the 70s and 80s.
