Ultra-Fast Transport System Could Be Developed in Indonesia
The Hyperloop Transportation Technologies, a company that develops futuristic transportation by Elon Musk, revealed that they are considering Indonesia as a possible location to put one of their tracks. A research has been conducted and the contract has an expected value of $2.5 million that will connect Jakarta to Sumatra and Java.
The idea of a Hyperloop is to create large tubes as propelling pods that travel up to 750 mph through magnets. It aims to solve heavy traffic and a much more convenient way to travel by land which makes Jakarta an ideal candidate. The city has one of the worst traffic in the world, according to CNBC.
According to Bibop Gresta, chairman of HTT, Jakarta, and Indonesia is one of the world’s most densely populated cities. It's congestion and traffic are one of the biggest issues the country is going through which makes the development of HTT a welcome development in the region.
If the development pushes through, HTT will make it possible for people to travel from Jakarta to Yogyakarta in just 25 minutes compared to almost 10 hours of travel time by car, according to CNET. This isn’t the only feasibility study that HTT is considering at the moment. The company is also eyeing on the Czech Republic and Abu Dhabi.
Elon Musk is associated not only with HTT but also the founder and CEO of SpaceX, product architect and CEO of Tesla Inc, chairman, and co-founder of SolarCity, Zip2 co-founder, OpenAL co-chairman, and X.com founder that merged with Confinity which is now known as PayPal. He is said to be the 94th richest man in the world with an estimated net worth of over $13 billion as of February 2017. In addition, he also ranks at the 21st spot in the Forbes list as one of the most powerful people in the world.
