Sleep, the Leading Hospitality Design Event in Europe Announces Plans for Sleep 2014
Sleep, Europe’s primary exhibit for hospitality architecture, design and development has recently released the details of Sleep 2014 which will take place at the Business Design Center in London from November 26-27.
According to the recent press release, the main activities for this year includes “The Sleep Set,” “The Sleep Bar”, more innovative exhibitions and conferences, the “Sleep ReardonSmith Student Award” and the “Sleep Set” awarding ceremonies.
The Sleep Set, which was previously called the Sleep Hotel will continue to challenge designers in creating concept rooms for a hotel brand. This year’s theme will focus on “simplexity” and explores the guest experience that transcends towards simplicity and complexity.
The Sleep Bar is The Sleep Set’s design gallery wherein a design company will be able to recreate a space that will draw Sleep’s crowds within the event. This year, The Sleep Bar will be designed by Stylt Trampoli, a Swedish-based design firm who won the Interior Design of the Year award during the European Hotel Design Awards for the Bar category. Stylt Trampoli’s design will be constructed by Famos Scandinavia A.B, the company’s long-time builder collaborator.
Of course, Sleep 2014 wouldn’t be complete with the exhibition and conferences. This year, there will be exclusive exhibitors from the United Kingdom, as well as a more innovative take on the Tech Hub exhibition. Sleep 2014 also promises a “Roof Terrace” which will be designed by expert hotel landscape architects and showcasing finest outdoor furniture design to display the latest trends in hospitality outdoor rooms and roof terraces. Conferences will be focused this year on trends in hotel design and development, long-stay apartment hotels and mountain resort designs. Sleep 2014 will also hold “disruptor” sessions which will provide provocative views on design as well as a more intimate designer Round Table discussion where Sleep Set hotel design contenders will present their works and get immediate feedback from the panel.
Sleep 2014 will again hold “The Sleep ReardonSmith Student Award” which will allows undergraduate and postgraduate design and architectural students in Europe to be recognized for their design capabilities. This year, the challenge will be to design a new hotel which is located in an old part of a capital city within Central Europe. The winner and two runners-up will have their works displayed during the event and will receive informal coaching sessions from top hotel designers. Interested participants may now view the details of the competition on the event’s website.
A late night opening, until 8pm on Wednesday 26th including a cocktail hour from 6-7pm, will give visitors the chance to take in the show and toast The Sleep Set winner announced at 7pm, followed by a presentation to the Student Award winner.
Grohe is the Headline Sponsor of Sleep 2014 and host of the VIP lounge. The show is the official event partner of the European Hotel Design Awards which will culminate in a dinner on the evening of 25 November when the winners will be announced in a star-studded ceremony at Park Plaza Westminster Bridge in London.
