Art Basel Miami Beach has unveiled details for its 2024 edition, set to host 283 galleries, slightly up from last year's 277. Returning to the Miami Exhibition Centre from December 6 to 8, with a VIP preview on December 4 and 5, this year's fair is under the new leadership of Bridget Finn. Finn, a former partner at Michigan's Reyes Project and associate director at Independent Curators International, has made significant strides in supporting smaller galleries since joining Art Basel Miami last July.

One of Finn's major initiatives includes the preface of a new' entry- level' booth option, which has been necessary in attracting the loftiest number of new galleries since 2008. This initiative aims to give a further equitable platform for small and mid-sized galleries to partake in the show's main sector, fostering greater diversity and representation within the event.

Main Sectors and New Participants

The main sector,' Galleries,' will feature 227 participants this time, including notable beginners such as Gallery Baton and Leeahn Gallery from Seoul, Pearl Lam Galleries from Hong Kong, and Gallery Wendi Norris from San Francisco. This sector emphasizes emerging talents and innovative contemporary art, providing a platform for newer voices in the art world.

Focus on Emerging and Historical Context

'Positions,' another key sector, will showcase solo presentations dedicated to emerging artists by 15 galleries. This sector is designed to highlight the work of up-and-coming artists, giving them a significant spotlight within the fair. Additionally, 'Survey' will include 17 galleries featuring works made before 2000, focusing on overlooked artist groups, particularly women artists of the 20th century. This sector aims to provide historical context and celebrate artists who have not received due recognition in the past.

Despite the instigative array of participants, a several notable galleries will be absent this time, including Galerie Eva Presenhuber. also, galleries such as Cheim and Read, Simone Subal Gallery, Mitchell- Innes and Nash, and The Vitrine Gallery, which have closed, will also not be partaking.

Beyond the Exhibition Centre

Art Basel Miami Beach isn't just confined to the Exhibition Centre. A series of exhibitions, performances, and projects will be held across Miami and South Florida's museums and institutions during the fair, extending its influence and artistic impact throughout the region. These events aim to engage the native community and visitors likewise, providing a broader artistic experience beyond the show itself.

Under Bridget Finn's direction, Art Basel Miami Beach in 2024 looks to be a vibrant, inclusive event that reflects the changing face of the contemporary art scene. By supporting lower galleries and emphasizing arising and historically overlooked artists, the fair continues to set a standard for inclusivity and diversity in the global art request. As the art world gathers in Miami this December, Art Basel Miami Beach is poised to offer a rich and varied show of artistic gift from around the globe.
