The HTC One M8 is TechRadar's Phone of the Year, defeating a variety of offerings in the process.

The flagship smartphone took home the top prize at the publication's Phone Awards, which also gave nods to the Moto G for Best Budget Phone, the Nexus 7 for Best Budget Tablet, the iPad Air for Best Tablet and Qualcomm's Snapdragon 801 SoC for Innovation of the Year.

Check out what TechRadar had to say about the One M8:

"The judges looked for the handset they thought was most powerful, well-designed, impressive, and most importantly, offering a brilliant experience for the user.

The judges lauded [the One M8] for having the 'best build quality', 'great design', 'packed with simple innovation', and just being a really, really good phone to have in your pocket."

The award doesn't necessarily mean the smartphone is hitting it out of the park with consumers, however.

The One M8 is experiencing "fading sales" due to some of the market's current and upcoming competition, according to an analyst for financial firm Canaccord Genuity, CNET reports.

With the Samsung Galaxy F (S5 Prime) and two iPhone 6 models (not to mention numerous other offerings from Chinese manufacturers) being rumored for release date schedules this upcoming fall, analyst Michael Walkley believes things are only going to get worse for the Taiwanese smartphone maker's new flagship, which he notes has been having some difficulty vs. the advertising budgets of tech giants Apple and Samsung.

The new HTC One (M8) packs a 5-inch, full HD 1080p screen, a 2.3 GHz Snapdragon 801 processor, Sense 6.0, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal memory and a 2800 mAh battery, microSD support and three cameras, including two on the back that can "sense depth and capture photographs that can be selectively focused after they have been snapped," according to Digital Spy.
