iOS 8 Beta 6 Update Set For Aug. 18 Release Date? Rumors Previously Tipped 15th For Download
A previously anticipated date for the release of iOS 8 beta 6 came and passed without the update, but previous release schedules suggest the download could become available this coming Monday, Aug. 18, UK'sPhones Review reports.
BGR previously tipped the beta 5 and beta 6 releases for Aug. 4 and Aug. 15 release dates, but despite correctly tipping beta 5's availability, the publication missed on beta 6.
However, as Phones Review reports, developers may not have to wait much longer for the download.
Beta 6 is believed to be Apple's final beta update for iOS 8 before the release of iOS 8 Gold Master (GM), which will likely be offered following the Cupertino-based tech giant's Sept. 9 event, where they are expected to unveil the iPhone 6. It is possible Apple could also use the stage to debut the iWatch or its iPad refreshes.
GM is the final version of iOS updates made available before the public gets its hands on the new mobile OS.
iOS 8 beta 5 is currently available over-the-air and through the iOS Developer Center for developers using compatible iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch devices.
The update also fixes several issues created by bugs from the previous versions.
In case you aren't sure if your device is compatible, the only device that didn't make the final list for iOS 8 compatibility is the iPhone 4, as the update is available for download on the iPhone 5S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5C, iPhone 4S, iPod touch fifth-gen, iPad 2, iPad Air, iPad mini with Retina Display, iPad mini, iPad 4, and iPad 3. As Gotta Be Mobile notes, the iPad 2's inclusion on the list was a mild surprise given Apple's history of leaving devices off of the list after three major updates. It was pretty much a given that the iPhone 4 would not make the final cut, as the smartphone is no longer available in stores and has already received the three updates.
