Sony Boss Shuhei Yoshida Discusses 'Until Dawn' Changes And 'Rise Of The Tomb Raider' Exclusive Deal
Shuhei Yoshida, Sony's President of Worldwide Studios recently spoke to Eurogamer about the recent success of the PS4 and eventually adding "Rise of the Tomb Raider" to Sony consoles.
Yoshida first addressed changes to the upcoming Sony game "Until Dawn," which was originally slated for a release on the PS3. He added that the game's developer saw that the game looked much better on the PlayStation 4 and decided to use the console's hardware to full use.
"When we announced the title two or three years ago on PS3, we were happy about the reception. But it was a time for us to look at all the games in development. Some of the titles, like Until Dawn, looked better to move it to PS4, because it's a horror title," he said. "We realised the game and genre can benefit from moving to higher performance hardware, so the visual impact can be stronger. It's all about who you decide to survive through the event. It's the characters' facial expressions can make it much more impactful. So the developer tried some experimentation on PS4 and the early result was great. So at that time we decided, yeah, the PS4 was taking off and lets move it to PS4."
During the interview, Yoshida also spoke on whether "Rise of the Tomb Raider" will ever come to the PS4 despite the game's exclusive deal with Micrsoft.
"That question has to be asked to Square Enix and Microsoft," he said. "I hope the game will come out eventually on PS4. But how can I tell? Other than that cryptic message by Phil Spencer."
