Designer Marc Newson Joins Apple Family
Apple Inc. has recently hired Marc Newson, one of the most prominent designers today. Senior Vice President of Design at Apple Inc., Jony Ive, and Newson have a 15-year friendship and have worked on previous collaborations together.
In a statement to Vanity Fair from Ive, he said, "Marc is without question one of the most influential designers of this generation...He is extraordinarily talented. We are particularly excited to formalize our collaboration as we enjoy working together so much and have found our partnership so effective."
The future of design deems stimulating with two powerful artists with resumes from airline interiors, concept cars, furniture, watches, cameras, fashions, bicycles, luxury goods, sculptures and the list goes on.
Newson was born in Sydney, Australia and studied furniture design in college. As a student he created the "Lockheed Lounge" which has generated three world records nearly 20 years after its creation. The designer has lived and worked around the globe in Europe and Asia, has developed admired companies such as fine watch brand Ikepod, an aerospace design consultancy. Newson did all this while having his work presented throughout the years in the world's most prominent museums, and has received countless awards for them.
In 2005, Time Magazine included Newson in the magazine's 100 most influential people of the year. He has worked for companies such as Ford, Pentax, Nike and Qantas airlines. As Apple continues to further develop while transitioning into the world's biggest modern lifestyle brand, with the expertise of Newson and his ability to generate products in various sectors, it seems essential for Apple to gain another individual of such sharp talent for the company's future.
In conversation with Vanity Fair Newson said, "I'm full of admiration and respect for the extraordinary design work that has been produced by Jony and the team at Apple. My close friendship with Jony has not only given me a unique insight into that process, but the opportunity to work together with him and the people that been responsible. I am enormously proud to join them."
While Newson is married with two children and living in London, he plans to stay in the UK and visit the headquarters in Cupertino, Calif. when necessary, according to Vanity Fair.
In an interview last year, Newson told Charlie Rose, "Jony and I sort of collaborate without even having to think about collaborating. We talk about this stuff all the time anyway."
