In its fourth consecutive year, Archtober takes the limelight in New York City. The design-savvy event will run throughout the entire month of October.

Archtober is organized by the Center of Architecture and the American Institute of Architects (AIA) New York Chapter and celebrates the interior design, buildings and urban planning of metropolitan New York.

Rick Bell, Executive Director of AIA NY said, “We are delighted at the diversity of programs and organizations on board for Archtober 2014.” He added, “The range of partners, both local and global, represents the full spectrum of architecture and design work.”

The 31-day celebration will kick off on Wednesday, October 1 with "New Practices New York 2014" which showcases the work of the city’s promising young design firm and will be exhibited at the Center of Architecture (CFA) in Greenwich Village.

Also happening on October 1 is a talk given by Cynthia Liebrock at the New York Institute of Technology. Liebrock will be discussing the merits of universal design. There will also be an architectural tour which will depart from South Street Seaport.

“Building of the Day” is a constant Archtober fixture that visitors have been looking out for every year. “Building of the Day” is a series of lunchtime architectural tours ranging from historic landmarks, restored iconic building, newly-opened projects and so much more. Everyday, Archotober features a different site and participants who book for the tour will get VIP access and even meet the architects themselves. For this year, the destinations include The New School, National September 11 Memorial Museum, 250 Bowery, Times Square Reconstructions and the Jacob K. Javits Center.

The full Archtober schedule of events is posted online. Interested participants can also visit the Archtober Lounge at CFA to hang-out and meet-up with other visitors of the show. At the Lounge, visitors can see a mural-sized interactive calendar of activities for the entire duration of Archtober.
