Call for Entries for New Design Britain Awards 2015
The New Design Britain Awards announced its call for entries for its 2015 edition. The UBM Live Built Environment-organised awards programme has also added two new categories. New Design Britain has established its reputation in bringing talented young graduates into the forefront of the design industry. Aside from this, the organization aims to provide mentoring and business advise information through online resources. Other initiatives include a fully-fledged progression and awareness campaigns that will support the issues challenging design education.
For the 2015 New Design Britain awards, the organizer has added Interior Design and Architecture as its two new categories, along with its mainstays such as Furniture, Accessories, Fabrics and Surfaces. Twenty-four shortlisted designers will have their works exhibited at the entrace of the May Design Series. Live judging will also take place at the show on May 2015.
Winners of New Britain Awards 2014 will be offered with work placement with major industry names, receive a free stand to display their design at May Design Series 2016 as part of the Designers Makers area and acquire industry advice, along with other benefits. Winners of the Interior Design and Architecture category will also be invited in designing the 2016 show.
The list judges for the 2015 competition is composed of major key players in different design disciplines. The judges are: Pia Benham, head of fabric and design at Heal's; Barbara Chandler, design writer and photographer; Emma Mawston, head of design, Liberty Art Fabrics & Interiors; Kate Mitchell, London showroom manager, Timorous Beasties; Rob Scarlett, NDB alumni class of 2003, furniture designer; Dan Ziglam, CEO, DeadGood; Paul Tanner, furniture buyer, M&S; Suzanne Imre, editor, Living etc; Naomi Cleaver, interior designer; Dids Macdonald, CEO of ACID; Giles Miller, director, Giles Miller; Anna Rigby, head of buying & home accessories, John Lewis; Shaun Clarkson, interior designer and star of Channel 4's Four Rooms; Ella Doran, interior and product designer; Ged Couser, director, BDP Architects; Katy Ghahremani, partner, Make Architects; Julie Humphryes, founder, Archer Humphryes Architects; Phil Coffey, director, Coffey Architects; Staffan Tollgard, creative director, Staffan Tollgard Design Group; Dan Hopwood, president, BIID; Sara Cosgrove, principal, Sara Cosgrove Design; and Katharine Pooley, director, Katharine Pooley Interior Design.
