Design firm Stantec published its 8th Annual Sustainability Report in a press release. The scope of the publication includes the company’s ongoing initiatives in efficient environment actions, diversity, community investment and health and safety. The report also emphasizes Stantec’s environment-friendly solution for clients and communities worldwide.
The report highlight details environmental performance in specific areas including the use of energy, greenhouse gas emissions, generation of waste and paper use. The company, with its 250 offices all over the world, has mandated the utilization of a consolidated travel agency system to track GHG emissions, which is a major energy-intensive part of its operations. Stantec also discussed its strategies in providing resilient infrastructure, mitigation and adaptation of climate change and implementing sustainable business design.
In 2014, the design company was recognized for its environmentally responsive initiatives. Stantec ranked on Carbon Disclosure Project’s Canadian Disclosure Leadership Index. This is the fifth year that the firm has received this recognition. In addition, Stantec was also hailed as one of Canada’s Greenest Employers for the fifth year in a row. It was also placed in the top ranks in the Green Design Firms category in both Engineering News Record and Building Design+Contruction.
The recently published Sustainability Report was developed within the guidelines of the Global Reporting Initiative’s G4 framework.
Stantec’s president and CEO Bob Gomes said, “We believe that achievement at every level begins and ends with a strong commitment to being best we can be.” Gomes added, “This report explores a range of environmental, economic and social indicators because we hold ourselves to a high standard of responsibility and integrity. Our employees and investors, and the communities in which we live and work, deserve no less.”
Stockhouse reported that in addition to the 2014 Sustainability report, Gomes has also announced that the company is dedicated in participating in the United Nations Global Compact and Global Compact Network Canada. The international organization has a membership of 8,000 companies in 145 countries. The alliance has a powerful advocacy towards human rights, labor, environment and anti-corruption. It is also committed to sustainability and corporate citizenship.
