Industrial designer Konstantin Grcic opens his exhibit entitled “Panorama” on Saturday, March 22, at the Vitra Design Museum, Germany.
Panorama delves into the designer’s commentary on culture when translated into tangible spaces. The exhibit shows four thematic scenarios on the Grcic’s perception on what public and private space means. In addition, it also provides an opportunity for viewers to pose existential questions within the context of design.
The exhibit has taken several years of planning and discussion between the industrial designer and Mateo Kries, Vitra Design Museum’s director and head curator. From there, they were able to explore different issues that tackle the role of the designer in terms of social relevance, struggles in the creative field and possible conflicts within the future.
The result is Panorama, a scientifically well-researched design narrative that provides a juxtaposition of day-to-day living and the bigger picture that occurs within. Grcic installs video projections and exhibits prototypes, models and drawings to let the audience understand his design process. Iconic designed chairs are placed within strategic spaces to stimulate an urban domestic living situation.
Panorama runs from March 22 to September 14. Aside from the Grcic’s exhibition, Vitra Design Museum will also host a seminar series from Philipe Rahm, Richard Sennett and Hans Ulrich Obrist.
Guests can also get a copy of a 320-page catalogue with the essays of Paola Antonelli, Marco Carpo and Peter Sloterdijk. The catalogue discusses retrospectives similar to Grcic’s Panorama.
