A recent survey conducted by AHF Furniture in the United Kingdom and participated by 500 people showed that interior design and DIY projects of a home is still very much considered as a solo effort. According to the results, four out of five people still make majority of their decisions individually when tackling home improvements.
From the survey, 15% said that they pretty much leave the interior design decisions to their partners while less than 10% are willing to work with or depend to contractors in executing their designs. The result also showed that 88% of the females in UK take charge when it comes to making interior design decisions as their male partners rely on women to give their home a feminine touch. In connection to this, 30% of males leave their female partners solely in making a call while only 5% of women would let their men take a part in the project.
One conclusion that can be made from here is that men are more inclined in working as a team when designing their interiors while women prefer working alone.
The survey also showed that 60% of the participants are keen on keeping their control on their interior design decisions in the future, 30% feel that they need to have more voice in the process, while 10% said that they would rather depend on their partner’s or another party’s decision when it comes to this matter.
AHF’s comment on this survey was, “More and more people are staying in because of the recent financial recession. This means that they have more time to really plan how their home will look. However, it’s still surprising that many homes are not taking a collaborative approach when it comes to decor.”
