Adrian Amore Architects’ transformation of a former butter manufacturing warehouse into “Loft Apartment” in Melbourne’s west has earned the nod of the judges for the 2014 Australian Interior Design Award. Judges were thoroughly impressed with how the development employed effective spatial planning through a straightforward, simple design.
One member of the jury said, “The spatial planning within the apartment reveals the hand of the designer; a skillful hand that expertly creates and explores volume, plasticity and light, culminating in an interior that is invigorating, sumptuous and livable.”
Aside from winning the Premier Award for interior design excellence and innovation, Adrian Amore Architects also too the Residential Design Award and the Best in State for Victoria.
The annual Australian Interior Design Award is now on it’s 11th year. For 2014, the award-giving body received more than 400 project submission and shortlisted 148 interior designers. The awarding ceremony took place last May 17 at the Sydney Hilton Hotel where the recipients of the awards were announced.
Jacinta Reedy, event manager, said that the pool of designers and design projects this year were all impressive and have shown that interior design in Australia is going towards a new and more progressive direction. “The jury recognised in these projects new directions in interior design, including cleve use of raw materials, a love of simplicity and restrained approach to design,” Reedy said.
Other award recipients include Urban Coffee Farm & Brew Bar by Hassell (Sustainability Advancement Award and Installation Design Award), Acme & Co (Emerging Interior Design Practice Award), Industry Beans by Figureground Architecture and Penfolds Magill Estate Restaurant by Pascale Gomes-McNabb (Hospitality Design Award), The Avenue by Arent &Pyke (Australia Residential Decoration Award), Toni & Guy Salon in Port Melbourne by Travil Walton Architecture and Zumbo Melbourne by Elenber Fraser (Retail Design Award), Ansarada Office by Those Architects and End of Work (Workplace Design Award), Garangulla Gallery by Fender Katsalidis Mirams Architects (Public Design Award).
