Last month, Philadelphia University School Architecture and Interior Design recognized Karen Daroff’s commitment to design excellence and awarded her with the Leader of Innovation medal. The award, presented by President Stephen Spinelli, also looks at Daroff’s achievements in corporate headquarter, institutional, aviation and museum design.
Daroff, who is the principal of DaroffDesign Inc+DDI Architects, said “I have had the pleasure and privilege of working with the talented faculty and students of Philadelphia University’s architecture and interior design programs for many years- as a guest critic, lecturer and as an employer of their graduates.” Daroff also cited that she is always invigorated by the enthusiasm of the students and the passion and commitment of the faculty everytime she is invited for discussions. Daroff, who run the largest women-owned interior design and architectural firm in the state also recognizes the vital role that the university plays in the design community of Philadelphia.
Philadelphia University also recognized the contributions of other Philadelphians such as William A. Finn of Asten Johnson, Estefano Isaias of Pacific Cable Television, Christopher K. McHugh of Turner Investment Partners and Ed Rendell, former Governor of Pennsylvania and Mayor of Philadelphia.Daroff said, “The University draws candidates from a global market and brings the best of the best to Philadelphia... I have seen firsthand how the University professionally prepares some of the most creative and technically skilled students. Four alumni of the University have joined the team directly out of school and have grown to be strong assets to DDI.”
The benefit gala was attended by around 500 alumni, University supporters, influences and industry partners. It also provided the venue for the most distinguished student works on innovative design thinking, commerce, engineering and other fields of achievement within the University. The proceeds from the event along with the Annual Fashion Show will go the university’s scholarship funds.
