Kere Architecture founder Diébédo Francis Kéré is the newest Arnold W. Brunner Memorial Prize of the American Academy of Arts and Letters. The architect is known for his prowess in creating sustainable building incorporating local culture and materials.
According to Archinect, the American Academy of Arts and Letters top award Brunner Memorial Prize is given to any notable architects that significantly combine art and architecture. Indeed, the Berlin-based Diébédo Francis Kéré is also known for his creative approach to construction and design.
The American Academy of Arts and Letters Juror Billie Tsien described Diébédo Francis Kéré as "is an alchemist -he has designed buildings of meaning and beauty" and has developed "an elegant and resourceful language of building." This is the reason why he topped the other 27 nominees and practices for the recognition.

Diébédo Francis Kéré is now part of the American Academy of Arts and Letters 119 years as the 2017 Brunner Prize winner. He will be receiving $20,000 as part of the award. The jurors: Elizabeth Diller, Henry N. Cobb, Peter Eisenman, Kenneth Frampton, Hugh Hardy, Steven Holl, Thom Mayne, James Polshek, Robert A.M. Stern, Billie Tsien, and Tod Williams are notably the people behind the honor.
Along with new 2017 Brunner Memorial Prize Diébédo Francis Kéré, there are still five more remarkable people which the American Academy of Arts and Letters recognized. They are Paul Goldberger, Theaster Gates, Walter Hood and John Ronan. Lastly, they will all be honored at an awards ceremony this May.
