The Samsung Galaxy S5's rumored cheaper companion, the GS5 Neo, may have surfaced in benchmarks,GSMArena reports.
The device, which is being tipped as a less expensive GS5 with a smaller screen - similarly to the Galaxy Note 3's Neo variant - may be the unknown Samsung smartphone showing up in benchmarks with the model number SM-G850, according to the report.
If the benchmarks indeed show the Galaxy S5 Neo, the device will come packing a 4.7-inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, a 1.8GHz Exynos 5 octa 5410 processor with four Cortex A15 cores and four Cortex A7 cores, ARM Mali T628 GPU, 2GB of RAM, an 11-megapixel rear camera, 2-megapixel front facing shooter and 32GB of storage. Connectivity options will allegedly include Wi-Fi, NFC and Bluetooth 4.0 and the device will come running Android 4.4 KitKat. GSMArena also adds that it will likely feature a skinned layer of TouchWiz.
No pricing details or availabilty information is currently known.
Meanwhile, Korean website ETNews has revealed some exciting news on the alleged premium variant of the Galaxy S5, the Galaxy F/S5 Prime, NDTV reports.
According to the publication's sources, the device will debut on Aug. 13 with the name "Galaxy Alpha," suggesting the premium smartphone will beat out competitor Apple's unveiling of its new, larger iPhones. ETNews adds that the Galaxy Alpha will pack a metal body that looks like a cross between the the Galaxy S5 and the Galaxy Note and will be aimed vs. the flagship competitors the LG G3 and iPhone 6.
Leaker @evleaks previously offered up what he claimed to be a press render of the Galaxy Alpha.
While the image kicked back up speculation that the smartphone will feature a heart-rate sensor, GSMArena notes the image could be photoshopped, as the website claims it looks "suspiciously like last month's "perfect gold" shot."
Phandroid reports that the device has passed through the FCC with the model numbers SM-G906S, G906K, and G906L, simultaneously revealing its dimensions, as well. According to the FCC paperwork, the smartphone measures 72.5mm x 142mm: identical to the current flagship GS5. As the website notes, the device is rumored for a 5.2-inch display, so it will be intriguing to see how it would incorporate the larger display in the same body.
Earlier benchmark results found on GFXBench, similarly suggest the Galaxy Alpha features a 5.2-inch display with QHD resolution (2,560×1,440 pixels) - making it a bit larger than the standard GS5, but withtwice the resolution. Additional specs listed for the device include a 2.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor (that GS5 packs a 801), a 16-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing shooter.
