Mark Zuckerberg Honors Wife 'Roman Tradition' Style with 7-Foot Statue by Artist Daniel Arsham

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has commissioned a striking seven-foot statue of his wife, Priscilla Chan, created by artist Daniel Arsham.

The sculpture shard by Zuckerberg on Instagram, reflects a style reminiscent of ancient Roman art. It depicts Chan in a weathered, oxidized copper finish with a dark teal coating. The piece is also enveloped in a shiny himation, adding a touch of silver flare around the statue.

Priscilla Chan's Roman-Inspired Statue

As reported by BBC, the inspiration for the statue comes from the Roman tradition of honoring one's spouse through sculpture.

At the same time, the roman tradition style aligns with Arsham, known for approach to art that often involves creating fossilized versions of contemporary objects. Overall, the collaboration has brought a historical feel to this modern tribute to Zuckerberg's wife.

Chan's likeness is rendered in a way that evokes the appearance of antiquity, blending seamlessly with Arsham's signature style.

In ancient Roman tradition, Roman Empire Times shared that it was rare to erect statues specifically to honor wives. Instead, Roman statues typically celebrated public figures, such as emperors, military leaders, and notable individuals, often to commemorate their achievements and status.

Statues were a means of showcasing authority and legacy rather than personal or familial tributes.

However, similar to Zuckerberg's affection to his wife, Roman society valued the display of public and personal prestige. Like his billionaire status, statues also played a key role in showcasing power and influence of individuals.

Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan's Romance

The couple met during their college years at Harvard and married in 2012. Together, they have three daughters: Maxima, August, and Aurelia.

Chan herself was pictured in Zuckerberg's Instagram post, posing next to the statue with a coffee mug and commenting humorously, "The more of me the better?"
