iPhone 6: Features Consumers Want The Most
iPhone 6 fans: "tell us what you want, what you really, really want."
A new survey from uSell.com (via NBCNews) of over 1,000 U.S. smartphone owners aimed to find out just that - producing predictable results.
37 percent of the survey takers said they want better battery life and 19 percent are clamoring for a larger screen, while an improved camera and better reception both claimed 11 percent of requests.
As for new features, 45.5 percent of survey takers indicated that they are very interested in those sapphire display rumors floating around, while 19.2 percent added that they are pining for an infrared camera. The third-most requested feature, at 10.7 percent, was HealthKit, followed by 3D image functionality (9.5 percent) and smart-home compatibility (7.7 percent).
The sapphire display, however, may not be available to most consumers who are looking to nab the upcoming device, according to the Wall Street Journal.
"People familiar with the matter" have informed the publication that Apple plans to debut sapphire glass displays in both the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch models - but only the most expensive, premium variants.
The decision would be a first for Apple, and as the article's author, Daisuke Wakabayashi, notes, the sapphire displays may only be packed into the device if Apple "can get enough of the material."
WSJ calculates that the sapphire iPhone screen would cost $16 to produce - significantly more expensive than the $3 cost for the Corning Gorilla Glass used on the rest of Apple's iPhone lineup.
Specs rumors for the sixth-generation iPhone include 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch options, an Apple A8, Near Field Communication (NFC) for mobile payments, Touch ID and an improved camera.
What do you make of the survey takers' requests for the iPhone 6? What would you like to see in Apple's rumored upcoming smartphone? Let us in on your thinking with a relevant comment.
