Venture Beat reported that the "The Last Of Us" also took the top spot in the list year. "Minecraft," "FIFA 14," "Watch Dogs," and "Mario Kart 8" rounded out the top five games. The website noted that FIFA's success likely came from lingering World Cup hype to push the game's sales.

In related news, the PlayStation 4 remained supreme in July in software sales, according to a report. This marks the seventh straight month on top for the console, which has recently passed 10 million consoles sold worldwide.
While none of the console developers have released specific numbers for last month, NPD analyst Liam Callahan said that PS4 and Xbox One are selling better than last generation's consoles at nine months.
"When combining life-to-date sales of Xbox One and PS4 after nine months, and comparing them to the combined totals of nine months of sales for Xbox 360 and PS3, sales of the newest consoles are larger than the prior generation by close to 80 percent," Callahan said.
Microsoft also made a statement on their July sales but didn't' elaborate any numbers.
"Xbox One continues to sell at a strong and steady pace following the release of the $399 console in June, when month-to-month sales more than doubled," a Microsoft spokesperson said. "We continued to see this momentum in July."

Mario Kart 8 came in at second and was followed by Minecraft at third, the EA Sports UFC game took the fourth spot. FIFA 14, which most likely got a boost from the World Cup, rounded out the top 5.
