With the iPhone 6 nearly upon us, it comes as little surprise that the tech beat has already started to focus on the following iPhone model.
As BGR reports, the Economic Daily News is already reporting that the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) is gearing up for production of the Apple A9 processor, which will allegedly kick off in the first quarter of 2015.
The A9 would presumably land in the 2015 iPhone refresh, which history tells us will be named the iPhone 6S. TSMC will reportedly produce 50,000 units of the 16 nanometer chipset per month - with the earlier-than-expected start due to the massive orders they will have to fill for Apple.
TSMC, the largest contract chip manufacturer in the world, is also believed to have produced an Apple A8 chip for the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhone 6 models.
In fact, earlier reports suggested that TSMC took on the majority of the orders of Apple's next mobile processor, effectively
The iPad Air 2 and next Mini with Retina display are also rumored to bereleasing with A8 chips. The devices could launch later this fall or before the end of the year.
The sixth-generation iPhone, meanwhile, is expected to be unveiled Sept. 9 at an Apple event.
Specs rumors for the iPhone 6 include an Apple A8, Near Field Communication (NFC) for mobile payments, a Touch ID fingerprint scanner, better screen resolution and an improved camera. The same color options offered in the iPhone 5S (Silver, Gold and Space Gray) have also been tipped in a recent alleged leak.
