Samsung Galaxy Alpha (AT&T) Gets Sept. 26 Release Date For U.S. Consumers

AT&T has gained the exclusive rights to start selling the Samsung Galaxy Alpha to U.S. consumers this week, CNET reports.

The carrier announced Monday it will begin offering the metal-clad smartphone starting Sept. 26 both online and in its retail stores with three color options: Charcoal Black, Dazzling White and Frosted Gold.

Depending on the mobile plan customers select, the Alpha will be available at various different prices. On a normal two-year agreement, consumers will pay $200, but there are also options through AT&T's Next18, Next12 and contract-free plans, which will make the Alpha available at $25.55 per month, $30.65 per month and $613, respectively.

It is unknown if AT&T's exclusive deal with Samsung means the smartphone will never be offered by the other major U.S. carriers or if this is a limited-time agreement.

The Alpha packs a 4.7-inch, 1280 x 720 Super AMOLED display, either a 1.8GHz octa-core or 2.5GHz quad-core processor depending on your region, 2GB of RAM, 4G LTE and a 12-megapixel camera on its front.

The South Korean tech giant has also released a new advertisement for the recently-unveiled smartphone, putting a focus on the people who will live up to the device's premium name - in this case a DJ, designer and stylist.

The creative veers from Samsung's usual strategy according to Cheil Worldwide, which worked with the smartphone maker for the Nicolas Winding Refn ("Drive," "Only God Forgives") directed video.

"We wanted to create something new, something that isn't 'Samsung' as you know it," Wain Choi, global ECD at Cheil Worldwide told The Drum. "For this, we wanted to turn our video into a graphical piece of art that every Alpha person would relate to."
