HTC has posted a teaser video that suggests it will be unveiling a One M8 variant at its event tomorrow (Oct. 8), Droid-Life reports.
The tech giant's U.S. Twitter account also uploaded a cryptic message that reads, "Don't adjust your screen. Just focus on the date. #HTCLive." The tweet was accompanied by a distorted photo of what appears to be a One M8 variant.
While it's obviously unclear which smartphone HTC will be unveiling Wednesday, two that have been popping up in rumors quite a bit lately are the One M8 EYE and One M8 Max.
A recent report from Chinese website MyDrivers revealed the Max for a 5.5-inch 2K display, Snapdragon 805 quad-core 2.7MHz processor, 3GB of RAM, 3,000mAh battery, an 18-megapixel camera with optical image stabilization (OIS) and Android L.
As BGR notes, these specs are very similar to those previously leaked for what was being dubbed the HTC One M8 Prime, which the Taiwanese tech giant reportedly decided to suspend indefinitely earlier this year.
No matter the name it releases with, a device with these specs would surely become a legitimate competitor to the market's current phablet lineup, including Apple's new iPhone 6 Plus and Samsung's Galaxy Note 4.
The One M8 Eye, meanwhile, is believed to basically be the HTC Butterfly 2 in a metal body.
The event could also usher in the debut of HTC's rumored tablet, the 8.9-inch Nexus 8.
HTC has not designed a tablet since 2011 or hooked up with Google for a Nexus device since 2010, but the partnership between the companies is apparently back on - good timing for Google considering HTC's recent successes with the designs of the HTC One and HTC One M8.
The Wall Street Journal reports that its sources confirmed that HTC engineers have been making trips back and forth from Taiwan to Mountain View to collaborate on the construction of the tablet.
