This winter in New York City has been an interesting one. There was winter storm Hercules but as a whole, January was the fourth warmest since 1880.
The worst is probably behind us but it's still February and you've been cooped up in the city for weeks.
It's time to escape for a weekend and if art and design are your things, you can leave New York City and experience those things in the same weekend.
Thanks to Travel + Leisure, there is a whole itinerary planned for you. All you have to do is pick a weekend and find a sitter for the kids.
Friday
Have your bags packed and leave New York right after work. You're on your way to New Haven, CT.
Travel + Leisure recommends staying at the Homestead Inn in Greenwich and you should listen. It's a boutique hotel with an acclaimed French restaurant and, traffic pending, you could be there in an hour or less. Relax Friday night and get a good night's sleep.
Saturday
Get up early and grab a quick breakfast at Le Pain Quotidien. The first stop of your tour is only half an hour away — the Glass House.
The Glass House was built by architect Phillip Johnson (1906-2005) between 1949 and 1995. The property includes the notorious house as well as 13 other structures on 49 acres of land. It is a "catalyst for the preservation and interpretation of modern architecture, landscape, and art," and close to New Haven.
How much time you spend at the Glass House is up to you.
There are two exhibits you can choose between or make time to see once you arrive, the Yale Center for British Art and Yale University Art Gallery.
City Gallery is another among many galleries in New Haven.
Sunday
Sleep in a little, check out Orangeside on Temple for donuts and other breakfast and lunch before you head back to the city.
