Lufthansa Technik has recently announced their cooperation with Mercedes-Benz Style in designing VIP aircraft cabins for short and medium-haul aircrafts. The concept design was presented in time for the 2015 European Business Aviation Convention and Exhibition show which took place last May 19 - 21 in Geneva, Switzerland.
While traditional private jets already have a luxurious feel in them, there is still that sense of being in a plane with the typical approach to segmentation and linear layout. The collaboration between Mercedes-Benz Style and Lufthansa Technik pushes the boundaries by creating a “dynamic, spiral architecture.” With this new layout, spaces become independent without resorting to typical arrangement of walls and seating. It also infuses Mercedes’ characteristic use of contrasts in materials, colors and lighting.
Gorden Wagener, VP of Design Daimler AG said, “It was an inspiring challenge to transfer our design philosophy of sensual purity into the area of aeronautical engineering. The spectacular architecture of the interior shows creativity and modernity. Sensual surfaces and clear forms, combined with intelligent high-tech features and perfectly shaped modern luxury are the characteristic features of Mercedez-Benz design.”
The design of the aircraft interiors, which will be specifically made for Airbus 320 and Boeing 737 range according to GT Spirit, will be “organic and homogenous like a DNA helix.” Elements of ceiling, wall and flow will seamlessly flow into one another. The furniture will adopt a sensuous appeal that will merge with the aircraft interior.
Cabin windows, inspired by the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, will be concealed within black panels. The design also incorporates the Mercedes-Benz Magic Sky technology so the panels can be dimmed from black to transparent. With these innovations, displays and touch screens will be easily integrated into the panels without compromising style.
On their part, Lufthansa Technik will bring in their expertise in customizing the unique design of the VIP and VVIP aircrafts alongside specific requirements of aircraft cabins.
Walter Heerdt, Senior VP for VIP & Executive Jet Solutions at Lufthansa Technik AG explained “The purpose of our cooperation with Mercedes-Benz Style is to unite the two companies’ innovative expertise in the areas of design and technology.” He added, “Our goal is to offer a highly discerning global clientele a standard of interior design that leaves nothing to be desired. Whether for private or business use, our modular completion concept perfectly fits every purpose.”
