Last Monday, March 10th, 200 guests comprised of industry professionals, designers, design educators and friends attended the annual spring gala of the New York School of Interior Design. The dinner was also a venue for awarding two notable alumna of NYSID.
Mariette Himes Gomez was presented with the Albert Hadley Lifetime Achievement Award. Gomez was awarded for her “extraordinary accomplishments as a designer of interiors, furniture and furnishings.”
Gala co-chair Alexa Hampton presented the award saying, “Mariette, you have given sublime spaces to your friends and clients, you have advanced our understanding of what interior design is and contributes to our lives, and you are an inspiration to your peers and the rising generation of designers.”
Another award was given to Charles Jencks. Jencks was given the Thomas N. Armstrong III Award in Landscape Design. The award was presented by Armory Armstrong, the daughter of the late Thomas N. Armstrong. In her speech, Armstrong said, “Charles Jencks takes on the issues in the contemporary dialogue of art, culture and society, including land reclaimation and design to improve health and provide hope.” Armstrong added, “We also recognize Charles Jencks as a powerful advocate for the power of design in addressing these issues.”
Both Gomez and Jencks received a crystal vase donated by Lalique.
The party started with a cocktail followed by a speech from Patricia Sovern, NYSID Board of Trustees chairman.
