Last weekend, a French businessman was reported to sue Uber for being the cause why his wife caught him cheating. Uber is being asked to pay $47 million or more for a possible glitch that has caused his now ex-wife to know about his extra-marital activities. Uber has yet to comment on the case filed against them.
According to a report from Forbes, the problem started when the wife of the businessman started getting updates from Uber about the riding transactions of her husband. This is because her husband logged in once in her phone to call a ride. The businessman claims he had logged out from the phone but apparently the wife continued receiving updates since that date. Moreover, the wife also had access to his travel history which revealed all the places he went to.
Jezebel reports the victim's lawyer, David-André Darmon, said his client was a victim of a glitch from the application. The notifications should not have been sent to his wife's phone because the user disconnected the session by logging out. "There's a function to disconnect but the session was not disconnected and the bug has caused him problems in his private life." The lawyer said.
This report was first published in a French paper, Le Figaro, who claims the bug did not only affect the French businessman but other users as well. Although Uber has not yet released a statement regarding the case filed against them, the company said keeping the private information of their riders is their number one priority.
According to the lawyer, his client wishes to keep his identity unknown and did not confirm the reports that his client is seeking damages of $47 million. The identity of the other users who have experienced the same bug hasn't been identified either.
