Mola 4 Kit Provides Hands-On Learning for Structural Engineering Through Iconic Building Models

Mola has proudly released its Mola 4 Structural Kit. According to Designboom, this new kit will enable users to build small-scale models of popular buildings with modular parts while learning about structural efficiency. The kit was designed by Brazilian designer Márcio Sequeira de Oliveira.

Mola 4 Structural Kit merges architectural theory with origami principles and folding techniques and consists of 145 parts, including an instruction booklet, with which users can build their models in endless variations.

With the capability to add other materials, such as cardboard, acrylic, and even 3-D printed parts, builders will be able to create well-known structures like Pier Luigi Nervi's Palazzetto Dello Sport or Álvaro Siza Vieira's Expo'98 Portuguese National Pavilion.

Mola 4 Kit for Hands-On Architectural Structure Learning

The appeal of the Mola 4 kit extends beyond architecture students. "Whether you're a student, an educator, a professional, or a DIY enthusiast, the possibilities are limitless, and no prior technical knowledge is required to have fun with this system of parts," says the Mola team.

Its friendly design makes it available for any person willing to learn something new in architecture and engineering. At the same time, the hands-on learning experience provides a qualitative understanding of structural behavior, almost impossible with traditional pure digital models.

Also, by physically handling the parts, users appreciate how buildings are constructed and the principles that determine their stability.

Is Mola 4 Kit Recommended by Experts?

Together with engineers and architects from leading universities, including MIT and Foster + Partners, the Mola 4 Structural Kit was carefully crafted and developed to foster more interaction between the disciplines of civil engineering and architecture.

Pre-orders for the Mola 4 kit are now available via Kickstarter for $169. Following the initial presale, the full retail price will be $229. The complete line of Mola products can also be found on the company's website.
