Young House Love's resident bloggers John and Sherry share their experience of getting a century-old beach house and improvising it to make it look brand new. The house is still in progress, and it starts being a challenge as it is literally falling apart.
John and Sherry have been blogging since 2007 about architecture and interior design and their recent blog talked about the century-old beach house. The main topics of their blog consist of transforming their house, designing and redesigning it, and giving household design techniques to listeners and readers. They have also been around in the design field as they have had experience in renovating homes, doing DIY projects, and even writing three books and making designs for household project.
The century-old beach house that they bought poses as a challenge for these two as the house was on the verge of destruction. Being around for 100 years, it would definitely not be a surprise if there are termites, molds, and rotting areas. However, the couple did no back done from it and took it as a challenge.
Their most recent post in Young House Love showed the progress that they made in the attempt of renovating the century-old beach house. It would seem that the appearance of the beach house was not an assurance; there are hidden areas that are beyond restoration. The contractors and other professionals advised the couple to take down parts of the house. In their blog, they shared pictures of the renovation and some of those shots showed wood eaten by termites, mold appearing in corners, and underneath walls.
One particular side of the beach house was in the worst condition and the couple had to tear that down and replace with sturdier and quality wood. This was the most challenging of them all as they had to redo the floor plan to adjust with this major renovation. When asked if they were moving out, the couple denied and said that the beach house was made for their family's (they have two kids) and friends' rest place.
