The New LTE modem and Snapdragon X20 has been announced by Qualcomm along with the shining promise of phone data that is faster than fiber. According to Engadget, Qualcomm is promising users speeds of 1.2Gbps which is 20 percent faster that what the company was able to offer before. Boasting speeds like that, the Snapdragon X20 definitely makes services like Google Fiber slightly pale in comparison.
Moreover, the Snapdragon X20 is said to perform well despite aggressive carrier aggregation which is known to limit carrier frequency ranges. On that note, Slash Gear reported that the Qualcomm Snapdragon X20 LTE modem will have users choosing between a fixed home internet connection and a faster LTE smartphone. The company is promising whopping data speeds for mobile devices as its new LTE chips near its launch. Apparently, the Snapdragon X20 is capable to Cat 18 downloads, which means that it is possible to have 1.2Gbps download speeds.
The same report reveals that Qualcomm was able to dish out the Snapdragon X20 on 10nm FinFET processes. The latter combines with the single-chip RF transceiver which will allow simultaneous streams of LTE date. On that note, it is possible for the Snapdragon X20 to handle up to twelve spacial streams at the same time.
Qualcomm is definitely promising a revolutionary LTE modem for mobile device users. The promise of a faster than fiber mobile data connection is quite appealing even to those who have opted for a fixed home connection.
