The text is said to be politically damaging to Manafort and Trump. The text were hacked from Manafort’s daughter through her iPhone.
According to Tech Crunch, Manafort’s daughter was hacked from her iPhone where an exchange of text with Ukranian Parliamentarian, Serhiy Leshchenko, is seen. In the text, the parliamentarian was hoping to reach the Manafort through his daughter as he has damaging information against him and Donald Trump.
The evidence is said to be related to Manafort’s financial transaction with former president of Ukraine, Viktor Yanukovych and Trump’s meeting with Serhiy Tulub, a Yanukovych associate in 2012. In the text, the parliamentarian said he has strong evidence and facts with him that he can pass to FBI or to the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine unless “maybe your way to work things out that will persuade me to do otherwise,”
In the text, the sender also said if he didn’t receive any reply, he will surely pass the evidence to the authorities. However, Leshchenko denied having written any of the text or emails, according to POLITICO. He also posted in Facebook that the alleged hacked text were obviously fake. As for the White House, the question regarding the truth behind Trump’s meeting with Tulub was not answered. Instead, the White House questioned the authenticity of the claim and explained that the president did not work with Manafort before the presidential election last year.
Manafort have also denied making a meeting between the president and Tulub in 2012. He said he wasn’t working with him at that time. The only thing that was confirmed from Manafort’s side is that the text does exist and said he also received the same text from his own number.
