Infurn.com is a website which claims to specialize in modern design classics and sells replicas of designer chairs such as the ones designed by Mies van der Rohe at low prices.
According to report, Guardian Money has received letters from Infurn.com customers who paid for furniture pieces at hundreds and thousands of pounds but failed to receive them. Aside from posting their grievances on the web, some customers have also decided to visit the website’s headquarters in Soho, London, only to find that the commercial space has already been vacated since May 2. Infurn.com’s listed phone lines are also dead.
“Dozens of people have been turning up here but the five managers are just calling in to close the whole thing down. I feel sorry for all those who have lost money. One woman burst into tears when she realised no one was here,” one security guard on duty commented. The guard also cited that one customer who had paid 40,000 pounds threatened him with a baseball bat out of anger.
But amidst all of these complaints and the shutdown of their London HQ, Infurn.com’s website is still operation and is even offering a 30% sale on its designer pieces. Credit and debit card payment facilities have been taken down and the website advised the customers to pay through bank transfer.
While most customers were not able to get their money back, there are those who received their refunds after taking legal action such as Kevin Ogilvie-White, who ordered two Eames fiberglass chairs priced at £219 each.
Clients who paid through credit card transactions were advised to apply for refunds through their card provider. However, there is no specific course of action recommended for those who paid through bank transfer.
