5 Paint Hacks You Wish You Knew Sooner

Because wall paint is the first thing you and your guests notice, it's important that it can already set your home's atmosphere at first glance. No one likes peeling the paint off of their walls or seeing colors that don't match their furniture and light fixtures.

At the same time, not a lot can afford a trial and error of paint colors that interior designers suggest.

With that, here are 5 paint hacks you wish you knew sooner for your DIY needs.

1. Petroleum Jelly on Areas You're Hesitating to Paint

As Design Times shared, interior designers know what's best for every nook of your home. However, if you won't be needing their services and are hesitating on which part you will paint, applying petroleum jelly to that area will make it easier to remove later. No need to purchase another pint of paint to start over or hire a painter to fix your mistakes.

2. Wrap Paint Brush with Plastic

Painting homes is not a one-day task. To prevent paint from getting everywhere, Tomsguide recommends wrapping plastic around the brush. This keeps it from drying out and saves you from spending money on a new brush for your next session. At the same time, it also prevents pets from accidentally eating paint while you rest and let it dry for a few hours.

3. Use Masking Tape for Clean and Straight Lines

Can't draw a straight line yet want to paint? No need to worry. MasterStroke by Resene suggests you refer to masking tapes. Use this to outline the area you want to paint. Remember to paint along the edges of the tape, which will help seal any gaps caused by the wall's texture. Once you remove the tape, you'll then see a straight crisp line.

4. Use Plastic Lining on Paint Tray

Things get messy when we explore creative stuff like this, and Tomsguide has a solution. Use plastic as a lining on your paint tray. With this, all excess and paint splash will be caught by the lining and not by your clean floor.

5. Spend More Time on Preparation

The downside of pulling a DIY is you have to do everything, from prep to finish, unlike interior designers and painters who let you sit back and relax. Again, the price to pay is spending a lot and you may not have enough budget for that. According to Family Handman, don't be afraid to spend more time preparing: vacuuming walls, patching up old paints, sanding, etc. This only means that the end result will be neat and all imperfections will be unnoticeable.
