McDonald’s has recently awarded the 2014 Best of Sustainable Supply recognition to their suppliers who have identified significant opportunities and applied sustainable solutions.
Jose Armario, Executive VP for McDonald’s Global Supply Chain, Development & Franchising said, “The submissions in the Best of Sustainable Supply report demonstrate that our suppliers go above and beyond to provide sustainable leadership and that they take their commitment to preserving resources seriously.”
Out of 600 nominations all across the world, MDC Wallcoverings is recognized for their sustainable solution in the Community Impact category.
MDC wallcoverings has worked with the company for more than 15 years is the only approved supplier to McDonald’s. They supply 75 per cent of wallcoverings to both McDonald’s restaurants and corporate offices.
The wallcoverings company also supports and sponsors ZeroLandfill Chicago, an organization which recycles expired sample materials used in interior design such as fabrics, carpet tiles, laminate chips, among others. ZeroLandfill re-uses these materials in local communities wherein artists, schools, scout troops, gardeners and local theaters are the main recipients. Working on an all-volunteer, zero-budget initiative for more than 18 months, MDC’s ZeroLandfill Chicago was able to save to expired samples from local landfill at more than 18 metric tons.
Giselle Walsh, MDC’s Director of Environment Affairs, said, “ZeroLandfill is a community effort that involves many of our partners and suppliers who shared MDC;s commitment to recycle and repurpose. We are extremely proud of the ZeroLandfill project and grateful for the recognition by McDonald’s.” Walsh added,
“Sustainability is a priority for MDC and we’re always challenging the status quo and looking for innovative solutions that help us do business in an environmentally conscious way.”
