James Gunn has confirmed that he will write and direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 series. He has released the news on Facebook, dispelling rumors of the contrary.
The confirmation was released on his Facebook page, following the promotion of the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Gunn said that he is aware of the question he would receive the most at the time of promotion - whether he would direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
"There is a history in Hollywood of haphazard endings to trilogies, and I didn't want to become a part of that dishonorable tradition of pretending the third one doesn't exist," Gunn said, referring to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. He said that he wouldn't do it for the sake of money, especially if it's what others wanted him to do.
Gunn revealed that he thought this would be the right time to share the news with fans, after many months of rumors, ruminations, and discussions of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, according to Game Spot. He said the fact that the fans, who have been so incredibly supportive and enthusiastic over the past five years, has moved him to tears many times.
"So, yes, I'm returning to write and direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3," he said, adding that he loves developing the characters. He noted that fans would experience more adventures in the third sequel, as the characters would learn more about themselves, unveiling a story "that goes beyond what they expect."
He explained that much of what has happened in the MCU for the past ten has been somewhat leading to the Avengers' Infinity War. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is expected to happen after all that.
Gunn also said that he enjoys having a working relationship with Marvel. As he gets to work on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, it's worth noting that Vol. 2 will be released on May 5 and the trailer is already available for fans to watch.
