Five Decorating Tips For Rooms, No Matter The Style
Whether it's a rustic, country living room in a Southern home or a chic modern one in a Manhattan loft, these tips will turn a good design into a great one.
Here are six complied by The Huffington Post with some photos to show examples:
Curtains should graze the floor
Curtains are not evening gowns for the windows of your home. They shouldn't touch the ground — only graze it. Above, is a good example of appropriate curtain height in an ad.
Gray goes a long way
It isn't who you're going to marry, but choosing a color for a room can feel like a daunting commitment. If you can't choose between a neon green or a maroon go with something safe that is still bold. Grays and beiges can be far from white and can match almost anything. Just choose the shade that's right for the existing furniture and in an afternoon, you can change the feel of an entire space.
Open your eyes to the light
The most flattering lighting is eye-level. If that doesn't sound right, know that it doesn't have to be a pair of spotlights. A couple sconces on either side of mirror is a great touch.
Stop guessing when it comes to mirrors
Mirrors should be hung at eye-level (maybe between two sconces). The standard height you should hang them at is 57 inches from the floor, according to Mezza Rajah on Pinterest.
There's more to rugs than their design
Area rugs should not just be laid anywhere. Try a rug that will fit beneath all the furniture of your room. The rule is that it it should at least rest under the front legs of the furniture. In this Pinterest example, the homeowner used multiple rugs to cover the surface are of the large room.
