An iOS app called "French Girls" was just hit the one million download mark and had an announcement to celebrate.
The app by Appek, which allows strangers to anonymously draw portraits based on selfies others have posted, just rasied $500,000.
"Passing a million is exciting, but we're just getting started. There is such an uniqueness to the content on French Girls and how the community is evolving is what makes the future bright. People can express themselves visually on French Girls in ways that are easily understood yet extremely powerful and we feel that we've only touched the surface of what's possible through this new type of communication." French Grils CFO Adam Ceresko told Virtual Strategy Magazine.
Actress-singer Christina Milian and American football player Larry English led the seed round of funding for the app, according to Ventrure Beat.
French Girls became avaible to download in January and attracted attention for being the app inspired by the line from Titanic, ""draw me like one of your French girls."
Similar to Facebook's Slingshot, the app requires users to attempt to draw portraits of others anonymously, before it renders an alterted version of one of your own photos.
Here are some examples of the most popular renderings on the app's website:

Since the two photos also appear next to one another once a drawing is completed, drawers have come up with some pretty comedic submissions.
It will be intriguing to see how the app develops further.
A number of people in the comments section for the app in the App Store have said it would be much improved if users could save drawings, leave the app and return to finish them.
Appek also is responsible for the game FaceInvaders, a passive-aggressive spin on the classic Space Invaders arcade game that became popular in 2011.
