Why Kaew Boutique?

Packaging of the World reported that Kaew Boutique is a reimagined branch of the famous Kaew souvenir shop, initially established in Kanchanaburi in 1990.

In response to economic challenges following the pandemic, Kaew transformed in 2022, launching a new concept focused on innovative Thai desserts.

Now designed by Mobius Studio, the new boutique aims to become a landmark in the area and offer a diverse range of amenities, including an array of products, souvenirs, food options, and coffee and co-working spaces.

The design also incorporates a pet-friendly environment for those not looking to work.

Mobius Studio's Kaew Boutique Design

The design of Kaew Boutique draws inspiration from Thailand itself. The building's circular layout is reminiscent of an egg yolk, which, according to Johor Kaki, is culturally significant to Thai dishes.

"The Portugese use egg yolks a lot in desserts...Thais began to use egg yolks more too, following Portuguese influence during the Ayutthaya era."

The roof, meanwhile, is shaped to mimic the local mountain ranges, considering Thailand has 11,622 peaks, per PeakVisor.

Designboom noted that Mobius Studio's Kaew Boutique was made with a thoughtful design,

"The primary goal of of Kaew Boutique was to create a relaxing space for users while coexisting with Thailand's weather conditions."

This means the studio took into account the directions of the sun, wind, and rain to sustain the building for a long time and provide comfort for visitors.

At the same time, materials used in the construction of Kaew Boutique are carefully selected to match the local environment. This means that the building's colors, textures, and overall look fit well with the natural view of the area.

For the building's exterior, Mobius Studio chose a facade with slats. These slats are not just for decoration; they are designed to improve airflow, making the interior of the building more comfortable and pleasant for visitors. This approach ensures that the inside of the boutique stays cool and airy, even in warm weather.

Various types of plants have been added to the boutique. These plants are chosen to complement the building and the local environment to soften the building's appearance, making it look more like a natural part of the surroundings rather than a stark, modern structure.

The exact timeline for the construction and completion of the Kaew Boutique building has not been specified.
