We have finally made it to 2014. So what does this mean in terms of interior design trends? Last year was all about ikat prints, using books as decor and all-white kitchens. What will the big trends be for this year? We have a few ideas.
Turquoise
Michael Boodro, Editor in Chief of Elle Decor, says turquoise will be everywhere this year. "Turquoise showed up in upholstery, wall coverings, and on furniture. And we're talking deep and saturated, not pale and wimpy," he wrote.
Corduroy Upholstery
It makes for great pants and it makes for great couches as well.
Acrylic Furniture
Acrylics are making a comeback because they are light and go with everything. Interior design expert Kris Kolar wrote, "Clear furniture has come back as part of a whole new segment of contemporary transitional. While used in traditional settings, it is giving a totally new twist on traditional. You will find totally clear chairs, cocktail tables, or entire dining room tables and even as legs on sofas or chairs."
Dark Accent Walls
We are going to see some very dramatic rooms with dark walls. Jeanine Hays of aphrochic.com wrote "Move over white walls, in 2014 we'll be seeing rooms with a lot more drama and glamour. Dark, moody walls in black will be the perfect backdrop to the metallic accessories that we're all loving right now."
Shades of Blue
Radiant Orchid may be the official color of 2014, but interior designers are definitely going through some major blue phases. Cobalt, navy blue and light blue will all be heavily used this year. Blogger Paloma Contrera of ladolcevitablog.com wrote, "From rich, saturated colors like navy and indigo to bright, vibrant shades like peacock blue and cobalt, blue will continue to reign supreme in the coming year."
Stand Alone Tubs
Who needs a tub connected to a wall? Let it stand alone. A stand alone tub looks awesome and just seems a little bad a**.
