Bigger really is better, I guess.
The new 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhones, much larger than their 4-inch predecessor, the iPhone 5S, have spurred millions of consumers to upgrade, USA Today reports.
While Apple won't release the official figures until Monday, analyst Tim Bajarin at Creative Strategies projects Apple sold 6.7 million iPhone 6 and 6 Plus in their opening weekend of availability. projection, he noted, would have been even higher if the tech giant released this weekend in China, the world's largest smartphone market, as well.
Apple announced Monday it set a record for first-day pre-orders with its new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, topping over four million orders.
CNET notes that Apple sold about two million iPhone 5 pre-orders within its first 24 hours and nine million 5S and 5C units during their first weekend of availability.
The tech giant added that initial demand has surpassed pre-order supply with most carriers, especially for the 6 Plus.
AT&T announced that the new, larger iPhones have spurred their biggest phone pre-order launch ever.
The carrier is Apple's longest partner, having served as their exclusive carrier for the original iPhone in 2007 and the next two years after that before Verizon joined the party.
The launch of the iPhone 6 is expected to spur "the mother of all upgrades" for the Cupertino-based tech giant. In anticipation, Apple reportedly ordered 80 million combined 6 and 6 Plus units by the end of the year.
With pre-order issues and sell-outs already in the books, it appears Apple shouldn't have any problem finding consumers for those units. Apple's online store crashed various times Friday, when the smartphones became available in the US and other markets, with many users unable to even pre-order the device once they got in.
BGR reports that the 6 Plus, the 5.5-inch model, has already sold out with various carriers, including AT&T, Verizon and Sprint. T-Mobile also failed to even get its pre-orders started on its website due to the demand, forcing users of the "Un-carrier" to try and pick it up the T-Mobile model through Apple's online Store.
Both new iPhones pack better battery life, an Apple A8 64-bit chip that allows for 25 percent faster CPU and 50 percent faster GPU performances, new camera features including Optical Image Stabilization and Apple Pay, the mobile payment system that will allow users to pay for products with their iPhone.
