Just a few days ago, the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times reported that Amazon.com plans to open a retail store. It will be the first physical store for the online retailer, and is said to be potentially located at 7 West 34th Street.
The location currently houses showrooms of home furnishing companies, neighbors major retailers and Macy's Herald Square, and also stares across to the Empire State Building - a major city attraction.
Although a definitive statement on the exact location is still under discussion, sources have supposed that the space will be occupied as a working warehouse for the company to start. The place is set to serve for holding inventory, generate accessibility for delivery services, a drop off for product returns and exchanges and will also allow customers to have the option to pick up their online purchases.
Home Furnishings News reported on the New York Times story, stating, "Amazon will take over the entire building, quoting construction and real-estate executives. The building is 12 stories high, and would also include Amazon offices and a distribution center."
The opening of an old-fashioned store seems to be a proposed idea in development from Amazon executives as an entire location that encompasses the company's executive offices, distribution centers and retail presence. As many of us know, companies today do not operate in such a way, while many businesses have made efforts to move their warehouses or distribution centers out of Manhattan. However, this development may be exactly what Amazon needs to generate profit and secure the company's future.
It is being speculated that Amazon will open its doors during this year's holiday season, according to the Wall Street Journal report.
