Angela Lansbury Joins Disney's 'Mary Poppins Returns' Cast, Working With Director Rob Marshall
Disney's 1964 sequel "Mary Poppins" will have its revitalizing return on Dec 25, 2018, and the cast will be joined by Angela Lansbury playing as the balloon lady, who is also a character of P.L. Traver's Series. Currently, "Mary Poppins Return" is filming in London at Shepperton Studios.
Award Winning director Rob Marshall, who will work with Angela Lansbury said in an interview with Walt Disney that bringing the P.L. Traver's adventure back on the big screen is both an honor and a humbling project. He further expressed, "The iconic original film means so much to me personally, and I look forward to creating an inventive movie musical that can bring Mary Poppins and her missive that childlike wonder can be found in even the most perplexing of times, to a whole new generation."
"Mary Poppins" is a 1934 book adapted and released by Disney in August 1964 and was first played by Julie Andrews and originally directed by Robert Stevenson. Although the story was part of a seven-part book written from 1935 to 1988, the 2018 movie project is a sequel. The current shooting of Rob Marshall will be challenging roles for the stars and Angela Lansbury herself.
Angela Lansbury first played in the 1971 Bedknobs and Broomsticks doing the role of Miss Eglantine. After which, her career continued with Disney playing several roles, including the voice of Mrs. Potts from "Beauty and the Beast", published in Good Housekeeping. "Mary Poppins Return" will be the major comeback which added more exciting and expected nomination and awards under the directorship of Rob Marshall.
According to Variety, Director and Produces Rob Marshall, "Mary Poppins' Return" is amalgamated with two other producers "Chicago's" John DeLuca and "La La Land's" Marc Platt. David Magee and March Shaiman will do the screenplay with "Hairspray's" Scott Whitman writing original music composition and while incorporated with new songs enticing the audience with its new adventures.
