A former US army barracks will soon turn into a community hub in Mannheim, Germany. MVRDV's plan to recreate Franklin Mitte Neighborhood will make way for a hoard of shops, restaurants and more. Though, the biggest star will be the H-O-M-E four residential towers. Find out more about the amazing transformation project here.
According to MVRDV official website, the architecture firm will breathe a new life in the 144-hectare neighborhood in Mannheim. The community will get an entertainment center again after being under the military for long years.
The former US barracks will be demolished by MVRDV. Then, it will construct a lasting place that young locals and families will grow into. The challenge now is how the firm will do it.
"In Franklin Mitte, we will create a fine-grained extremely homely and cozy neighborhood with a central hill that is both a park and shopping center. The HOME towers signal a welcoming suggestion," MVRDV Founding Partner Winy Maas. It will attach all the commercial and residential structures so that everything will be as one.
As stated by Arch Daily, the four H-O-M-E residential towers will take housing needs of the people. It will literally take as well the letter shapes as it gets build. It will apparently be the past and the future's juxtaposition.
MVRDV in collaboration with other design studios will construct more than 300 flexible apartments and public spaces. Each letter towers will be in a rotation at Vogelsang district, the hill, and the highway.
Everything in the neighborhood will be accessible by its people. There will be a tennis court in the "M" tower roof while the "O" residence will also get a public stage. All the people living the area will be allowed to make use of all its features.
The MVRDV overall Mannheim project is still in progress. It started years before but its end date is, however, undisclosed until now.
