The profound connection between humanity and nature has inspired countless individuals throughout history to seek solace and simplicity in minimalist living spaces. For one client couple, their love for nature and community led them to embrace a life of travel and minimalism, culminating in the commissioning of a unique model house designed to embody these principles.
A Site of Natural Wonder
Situated amidst the awe-inspiring landscape of Mt. Kamiyama and Owakudani, the site of the tiny hut is steeped in natural wonder and spiritual significance. The region's ancient history, marked by a phreatic eruption that formed Lake Ashi and Owakudani, has long captivated the reverence of local inhabitants. To honor the sacred presence of Mt. Kamiyama and pay homage to the traditions of the region, the hut was strategically positioned to face south, welcoming warm sunlight while maintaining a respectful distance from nearby streets and volcanic activity.
The Treehouse Hut Design
Lifted up at full five meters in the air by power steel columns, the 20m² hut provides with a feeling of being apart from the alien and offers the whole amazing landscape as a looking point. The architectural design with a treehouse outlook will blend perfectly as the natural surrounding garden and being a part of nature shall create a serenity where you become one with the universe. A JLing wooden deck surrounds a flowering dogwood tree that, during summer, offers shadow and provides sunlight in the winter.

Inner Sanctum
Unfortunately, the interior of the hut is not big, but it has a glimpse of the temple and gives you a solemn sense and the atmosphere of silence. Atrium sits by the central position which is brightened with the sunlight getting the roof through the skylight, becomes the heartburn of the space. With the individual fireplace in this case reminds of the linkage between mankind, nature, and the divine and honours the designation of Owakudani and with Mount Kamiyama. Akin to the shrine gates borderjiz, my hearthout appeals to a spiritual solitude within the four walls of my hut.
The idea of contemplative life and artistic journey of well-known recluse and wanderer poets including Saigyo, Kamo no Chomei, and Basho is a source of inspiration for the project. The meaning of the words about melancholic thoughts of humans who are drawn to the simplicity of life is reflected in this work. The hut was small, light, and tree-trunk-like, similar to Snufkin's pointed hat in the illustration of Tove Jansson's Moominvalley. This resemblance was not only aesthetic, but it also represented a way of life--the footloose and "green" life in harmony with nature and in awe of the world around.
In essence, this project serves as an experimental exploration of the richness found in a frugal life lived with delicate sensitivity to nature and a faith-like humility. By embracing the simplicity of minimalist living, the client couple seeks to forge a deeper connection with the natural world while honoring the traditions and spiritual heritage of the region.
